Gostomel Shelter

Gostomel Shelter is an animal shelter located in the Kyiv region that has become a symbol of resilience and humanity during the war. With the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the shelter found itself in an active combat zone. Despite shelling and destruction, volunteers and shelter staff did everything possible to save the animals, providing them with food, water, and medical assistance. Many animals were evacuated to safe regions, but some had to endure the horrors of occupation.

After the de-occupation of Hostomel, the shelter faced new challenges — destroyed infrastructure, lack of funding, and an increase in the number of stray animals. However, thanks to the support of animal protection organizations, volunteers, and donors, the shelter was able to resume its work. Currently, there are over 700 cats and dogs in the shelter, and the shelter team cares for them daily, providing food, medical care, and comfortable conditions.

Our shelter has become a symbol of how even in the toughest times, people continue to fight for the lives of those who cannot protect themselves. It draws attention to the problem of stray animals in Ukraine and reminds us that helping others is the foundation of humanity.
